Feeling desperately confused and betrayed by the people she trusted the most, Kiera chose to jump through the disappearing vortex. Did she make it over to Zakk’s kingdom or was she pushed back to Earth? Would she even survive this time?

The next four years are long and heartbreaking for both worlds. As the darkness spreads throughout the lands, will Zakk’s army be able to stop it reaching Earth? Will Tom’s small band of rebels on earth stand a fighting chance?

At the time of the final battle will the Chosen One have the power to stop the oncoming evil or will it be too late?

Kiera’s Quest, as a whole for me, has become one of those series that started well and got better and better with each part.

Zakk has been searching for Kiera for over a year and while key people think it’s time he gave up, he wants to give it one more try.  Hayley (Nurse Bell) is in the cells.  She surprised me twice in Choices!  I love it when a character does this.  My opinion of her changed completely and I loved her for what she did.

With her memory lost, Keira has been healed and taken into the community of the Ovads.  Nova is the leader of this peaceful race and tries to find out more about which race Kiera is and where she has come from.

On Earth, Kiera’s friends and family are devastated.  They are setting up their own army to be ready for when the vortex opens.  Maddison and Chloe are in conflict which adds tension to this already fraught group.

More excellent world-building with the Ovads. Alongside the Ovads, the races we’ve met before have an integral part to play as the conflict all comes together and Keira comes into her power.

Keira is strong in Choices (but she still has her caring nature).  I loved her disobeying Zakk.  Mason (one of the Hershen’s) takes on more than the role of training her.  Instead of making Keira weak, I felt it made her even stronger and allowed her to tap into her power.

What an awesome final battle! So fast paced.  I just couldn’t put my Kindle down.

Lots of resolutions in Choices and even though this is the last book in the series, I still think there’s an opening for more (disappointed not to be attending the wedding in six months time!) I would love to see more action with Kiera’s power as I feel she is only just beginning to explore what she can do.  What happens in Zakk’s kingdom? What about his future children? What will happen to Zantar? How about those taken away to be healed? Will they live or are their injuries fatal? You see how much I’ve become involved with this series 🙂

I know Kristy is working on her next novel which is a YA.  I can’t wait to see where she will take her readers next!

You can read my reviews of Awakenings, Sacrifices and Perceptions here.

This series is targeted at a tween audience but if you love magic and fantasy, I highly recommend, no matter your age.

This is the third book in the Kiera’s Quest series.  You can read my review of Awakenings here and Sacrifices here.

With Perceptions, we continue where we left off in Sacrifices.

Once again we spend exciting times in both worlds.

On earth, Kiera’s best friend Maddy is puzzled by Kiera’s behaviour but puts it down to the explosion.

Even with no power the Witch Queen still manages to do damage, especially when she pairs up with someone!

Back on Zantar, we learn more about the motives behind the Witch Queen’s evil actions and there is lots of adventure.

I loved the quest in this book – in fact, this is my favourite. I thought the idea behind the vortex they’re searching for was fabulous and it ties up with an event on earth.

I really felt as if I was in the Forest of Mattazaran.  This quote describes it perfectly:

“No wonder she could hardly see before, the trees reached right into the sky’s stomach and the branches shadowed over her, like the sky was spitting them back out.”

We’re introduced to new species on Zantar.  The Capetorads and Hershans are imaginatively created and I adored them.

Back on earth, the Witch Queen works her evil and relationships start to change because of her meddling.

Once again, the characters reflect real life.  Looking back from the start of the first book we can see how their relationships are changing and growing in a natural way.

Kiera is much stronger in Perceptions.  She’s starting to believe in herself and taking on the mantle of the one who will fulfil the prophecy.

We end on a cliffhanger … and I’m very eager to see where Kiera’s journey will take us next.

Brown is skilled at keeping the action moving and world building.  There is so much to love about this series and if fantasy is one of your favourite genres (whether you are a YA reader or an adult), I can only recommend you buy the series for yourself.

After almost beating the villainous Witch Queen, Kiera’s triumph is tainted with sadness for the loss of Joe and Daz. When the handsome Prince Zakk asks Kiera to re-enter his world in order to save her friend, she does not hesitate.

On their perilous journey Kiera realizes that she is there to save many lives. As she comes face to face with her evil nemesis once again, Kiera comes closer to finding out the truth to why she has been chosen.

Will she succeed? Will this be the end to Kiera’s quest?

Sacrifices is the second book in the fantasy series Kiera’s Quest targeted at the YA/tween audience.

You can read my review of the first book, Awakenings, here.

Sacrifices opens with Kiera’s friend Joe in the clutches of the Witch Queen.  She is very weak after almost being defeated by Kiera although she has her way of replenishing her energy.

We’re introduced to new character Jude (aka Mouse).  Jude is their guide through the sewer tunnels that will eventually lead them to the Dark Palace.

In our world, the police become involved because Kiera, Joe and Daz are missing. Visiting the school, they try to find out what has happened.  Maddy becomes confused by a peer when she glimpses a different side.

In Sacrifices, we still have plenty of action to engage us but the reader also finds out more about Zakk’s world, Zantar.  We find out who is a ‘friend’ in our world and a surprise twist about who a traitor is.  There’s another surprise with Terrence the terrier … and Uncle Joe is not all that he seems to be.  There are new characters who tie-up with the ones we already know from Awakenings… and a reveal that will make you gasp in surprise!

The climax is nail-biting.  I thought it was a very creative ending leaving the reader on a cliff-hanger!  As Zantar is suffering from the Witch Queen’s experiment, everyone is blasted through the vortex back into our world.  Everyone including the Witch Queen who has made a change that will certainly reverberate through our world.  What is left of Zantar?  What dire consequences will there be in our world with the Witch Queen on the land?

I’m really looking forward to finding out what happens!

Meet Kiera, a pretty, intelligent, and talented girl, brought up by her uncle, and abandoned by her parents. Life is as normal as she believes it to be, apart from the deep ache inside her, telling her she’s different. For years, Kiera had dreams where she ventures into a different reality. She’s not alone; a presence is always there, keeping her safe, yet she feels vulnerable, and hunted.

Zakk, Prince of Zantar, is under the Witch Queen’s spell as she tries to take over his world. He crosses paths with Kiera, and their fates are entwined.

As their journey unravels, she learns that she is not the only one affected by this prince. Who is on her side? Will she find out why she has been chosen? How can someone so young, defeat such evil? Will she find the strength to save the ones closest to her? Will this be Kiera’s only Quest?

Kiera’s Quest is a fantasy series targeted at the YA/tween audience.

Awakenings opens with Zakk in a cave with the Witch Queen.  This is an eerie scene, full of magic and emotion.  This sets the foundation for the action to come.

Next we meet Kiera as she’s doing what all teens do … dancing and singing into her toothbrush … that is until she realises friend Maddy has been silently watching her.  This scene endeared Kiera to me straight away!

We find out about Kiera’s family background and meet her friends as they hang out for the day.  This leads us on to how that although Kiera has this strong friendship group, she feels something is missing and her dreams are different.

What follows is a plot full of action as Kiera begins her quest with a very tight deadline.  She has to unite the rings before Zakk’s birthday otherwise the Witch Queen rules.

I enjoyed the uniqueness of how Zakk is represented in our world and the way the plot weaves back and forth between the alternating realities so that with Zakk in our world, we are still following the plot in the Dark Palace.

The school community is portrayed well and the conflict this brings is exactly how it is in reality.

The characters are believable and the targeted YA market will be able to identify with them.  I loved the Witch Queen’s servant Googe … obedient but also hungry for power!

The plot is full of action with surprises and allies keeping the reader engaged and wanting to find out where the plot leads to next.

The ending is perfect – the plot is partly resolved and Kiera must go off on another journey.

I have to say that I think Awakenings would translate well for a console game and would make an excellent TV series.

My rating for YA (and adults who like to read about magic and quests):
